-- Save Environment and Save Money

Many people are trying to do more things to help the environment. There are many different things that you can do and many of them can save you money as well as help the environment and so there are double benefits. It can also give you a good feeling to know that you are doing something good to help preserve the state of the planet for your children and grandchildren. There are some really good products out there such as biodegradable bags which are a great substitute for the normal plastic ones that we use too often. Then there are organic items which are made form products which are grown using chemicals that are less damaging to the environment. These are often food products such as meat and vegetables as well as clothing such as organic hats. There are all sorts of clothes that you can get though including baby clothes, t-shirts, trousers and bamboo shirts. It is worth taking a look at what is available to see whether there are any items that you would like to get.

The environment is something which many people do not worry about but some really care about it. Often it is felt that the little things that one person can do are not enough to make a significant difference. There is also a great advantage that many things which help the environment are cheaper in the long term. The organic products may not be cheaper at the moment but the more that people buy them, the bigger the market will be and the prices will fall. There are also products which save energy and although these can be initially expensive they can save money in the long term and give you significant savings. Therefore it is worth looking hard into ways to save money and help the environment at the same time. However, it is important to think that if every person makes a small difference then things will improve because each small difference will add up to one big effect. Also as more people do it then other people will start to as well because this is the way that things start to spread. So make sure that you think hard about the decisions you make with regards to items that you buy and consider whether you would rather help work towards a better environment for the future.

-- Run A Car On Electricity

Learning how to build your own electric car is not really that difficult of a project. We did our own conversion of a 1995 Toyota Corolla in about 2 weeks at a cost of only a few hundred dollars. How did we do it? It really turned into a family project after it began, here’s how you can do it too.

What will you need to get started?

· Detailed plans on how to build your own electric car

· You can use any vehicle- gas, diesel

· A garage, shop or barn is nice, but not necessary

· Simple tools every home workshop has- wrenches, drills etc.

First off you will need a large DC motor (9 inches or larger) and a source of batteries. Note that AC motors can be used as well but they are a bit more expensive so we went with DC. They are easier to install too.

You can, of course buy all these parts brand new but this is the heaviest cost of the whole project so we suggest using the sources of free DC motors and free industrial batteries listed in the plans.

They’re not hard to find either and since a DC motor will run for probably longer than you will own your car, using salvaged motors makes sense. Your car will rust out from under you before the motor gives up.

We wanted to keep the costs down and figured this was a great way to do it.

After obtaining your DC motor and batteries you have to remove your gas engine from your car. Rent a hoist or find a friendly mechanic to lift it out for your. A few bolts and it’s free.

Leave the clutch and flywheel assembly and detach the rest. That will leave you room for batteries and DC motor mounting.

It is imperative that you only use a standard transmission vehicle for your conversion as automatic transmissions simply won’t work.

Don’t worry, you won’t even have to shift gears in traffic once the conversion is done. It will drive just like an automatic transmission, which is nice. Put it in gear and go. When you stop the engine simply stops too. It doesn’t keep idling, requiring clutching like a gas engine.

The accelerating ability takes some getting used to as there won’t be a vehicle in town that will take you off the line at stop lights. This is no slow golf cart you will be building here.

Learning how to build your own electric car is a lot of fun too. Putting together the controller and motor assembly is not that difficult either.

Your new Electric car will be able to go 50 mph and travel up to 200 miles on a single charge too. Pretty amazing.

Did you know that gas prices are expected to reach $7 per gallon next year?

Isn’t it time you got started on this project.

Build Your Own Electric Car is the best place to start on your own electric car conversion and learn all there is to know about how to build your own electric car.

-- How Do Wind Turbines Work and Can You Save Money By Installing One?

Wind turbines are fast becoming a popular alternative way of generating electricity. They are environmentally friendly and very clean as they don't emit any harmful gasses. You have probably seen the big commercial wind turbines but have you considered installing a smaller domestic windmill in your own home?

If you live in an area that frequently gets windspeeds of 12mph or greater then you are in an ideal spot as this is the speed required to turn the blades of a wind turbine.

The tower must be tall enough for the blades to catch the wind so if you live in a less windy area then you will need a much taller tower.

The blades of the wind turbine are attached to a rotor which turns a drive shaft that in turn generates electricity. This electricity is stored in a battery for use when there is no wind.

We have all seen pictures of the old style windmills that used to grind corn and pump water, but modern windmills look very similar to the propellers on an aircraft.

There are two types of wind turbine. Horizontal axis turbines and vertical axis turbines. The most efficient and commonly used wind turbine is the horizontal axis. As it's name suggests a horizontal axis wind turbine rotate along a horizontal axis, and a vertical wind turbine rotates along a vertical axis.

You can save a lot of money on electricity bills by installing a wind turbine but before you make any decisions you have to look into the area you live in and the amount of space you have surrounding your property.

Ideally you should have at least an acre of ground to give enough space between you and your neighbours. The blades can make a noise depending on the size of your wind turbine and a larger area gives the blades plenty of space to turn.

As mentioned earlier ideally you should live somewhere that does get sufficient wind to turn the blades. On the coast or on top of a windy hill are perfect locations. If on the other hand you still want your own wind turbine and live in a less windy area you would need to fix the blades on top of a much taller tower and this may not be an ideal solution.

You could also consider installing a few solar panels to really maximise the amount of electricity you generate. After the initial cost you will save on power bills and if you generate an excess of electricity you could sell it to your power company and earn money from them!

Building a wind turbine for the home is a great investmet and will save you thousands in energy bills. You can install a wind power system for as little as $200 using materials available in your local diy store. Find out how you can build your own wind turbine with very little diy experience and start saving money. Click Here now to find out more..

-- Land Fill Dislikes and Landfill Costs to Society

No-one, or almost nobody, likes a land fill. But, that does not alter the indisputable fact that Land fill is one of the most widely used techniques of waste disposal of civil solid waste ( MSW ) and industrial and general commercial waste ( C&I Waste ) around the world. Even when a council recycles a lot there may still be a third of the waste going into a land fill.

As well as that more and more are being thrown up as society produces more and more trash.

After being land filled, the refuse decomposes thru a chain of combined physico-chemical and biological processes, that may take a period of more than a century and a half.

Land fill is simply the disposal of waste into or onto land. These days, within the developed nations land fill sites are created and operated to stern technical standards in order to reduce environmental effects.

Some waste in these nations never even gets sent to landfills any more. For example, waste from electric and electronic kit, white goods ( e.g, washing machines, refrigerators ) and dangerous waste ( e.g, batteries, medicines, fluorescent tube lighting ) mustn't be thrown in the bin, but be left at the many civic amenity centres round the country for recycling and disposal.

Where landfill is properly controlled and minimised there are bring centres in all areas for the recycling of glass, cans and some plastics. Unfortunately, in the countries land fill control is given a low priority with the result that the landfills make plenty of pollution and emissions of dust flies and rodents like rats, are common.

Land fill fires are commonplace on the poorly controlled landfills and yet more pollution occurs when rubbish heap burning produces poisonous smoke as they burn plastic materials. Such fires are unusual in the U. S. , Europe and other more made states. Land fill wishes much better control in most developing states and it's not pricey control the land fills better, when compared with he disease and suffering due to bad land fills.

Waste disposal practices and the regulation of land fill sites are similar in the developed states.

Landfills are kind of like bathtubs. Like bathtubs, they leak 2 ways : out the bottom or overboard. To prevent this the leachate must be removed before it builds up pressure. So, leachate is removed from the bottom layer of the Land fill and put into storage tanks.

The leachate is then pumped back to the Land fill, allowing it to flow over the waste repeatedly. It percolates through the land fill, picking up impurities as it travels. The bottom layer of the rubbish heap rests upon a land fill liner. The liner regularly has several layers. The top, or primary, liner may be , for example, a composite section with 60-mil high-density polyethylene ( HDPE ) and a bentonite subliner.

Leachate is produced by a mixture of liquids from waste material, rain-water and other liquids that are produced during the decomposition of waste. It may contain contaminates that might pollute water supplies if permitted to go into the underground water in the rocks below.

Depending on traits of the Land fill and the wastes it contains, the leachate could be comparatively safe or highly toxic.

Recirculation of leachate increases the rate of production of dump gas, which is good if this may then be used to generate power. Waste compaction is good because it allow the maximum volume of waste to be put in the land fill, and increases stability while reducing settlement. Unfortunately, good waste compaction also slows gas production as it increases the density of the land fill contents, decreasing the rate at which water can infiltrate the waste. The rate of gas production is higher if heavy rainfall and/or permeable land fill covers introduce additional water into a land fill.

To make sure that a land fill does not pollute the groundwater below it, groundwater monitoring wells are installed throughout each site to make sure that Land fill operations are not impacting groundwater quality.

Usually, each of the wells is sampled on a once a month basis, with the results sent to the Environmental Protection (EPA) and Water Resources Board. Groundwater monitoring stations constantly test for land fill leakage, infrequently for as long as 50 years after Land fill closure. That's needed since there's little oxygen and moisture in Land fills, garbage doesn't break down very quickly.

Additionally, a Land fill gas system will be installed to gather gas thru wells and treat the gas by burning in enclosed flame flares or by other authorized methods like changing the gas to electricity.

Air quality is monitored downwind of landfills, with extra samples are also taken 'upwind' of the land fill. These samples are called the 'background' samples, because they show gases that are usually present but aren't produced by the Land fill.

Methane has twenty-one times the global temperature rises potential of CO2, so in the near term and in the case of Land fills, it is better to have CO2 going into the atmosphere than methane. Land fill gases travel openly for great distances into the environment. Methane burns extremely simply and regularly is used as natural gas for cooking and heating. It is lighter than air and collects at the top of enclosed spaces.

-- How to Control Arena Dust So It Doesn't Cloud the Entertainment

There are a great number of Americans that love to go watch a horse show. The significant drawback for those with respiratory problems is arena dust. This dust is not only hazardous to the spectators and riders, but also the horses.

Arena dust occurs when the base of an arena is not compatec properly or has become combined with local soil. For an average arena, a normal year's wear and tear will only wear the surface down 1/8 of an inch. As the surface is more frequently used, the dirt is broken down more and more until the particles become small enough to be airborne. New unwashed sand to cover the arena floor, but it does not produce dust because the particles are of sufficient size to not become airborne. Another benefit of unwashed sand is that it has from 10 percent to 30 percent clay. Clay is a fine particle that can easily become airborne, but it has other qualities that decrease the dust. One is that clay has the ability to bind with other particles in the sand. This helps to minimize the smaller particles that could become airborne that are in with the sand.

A liquid that is used to minimize arena dust is water. This is an effective method, but it is a temporary stop gap. To increase its potency, it must be done in sufficient amounts. In most cases, if water is soaked down two inches, this will be sufficient enough until the moisture evaporates. For most arenas to control dust, not only can they make use of water, but they could also use salt. The most common salts are calcium or magnesium chloride. The physical properties of these salts are what make them compatible with water. This is their "hydroscopic properties" or ability to absorb moisture. Unfortunately, there is a risk that comes with calcium chloride and its caustic effect on the horses and a rider's skin. Magnesium chloride is the suggested salt. As an added precaution, it is recommended that the horse's lower legs and hooves be washed down after being in an arena treated with magnesium salts.

There are other dust suppressors for an arena, but magnesium chloride combined with water is the economical choice to eliminate arena dust.

-- Tussocks, Aquatic Weeds And The Environment

Do you know what Tussocks, Sudds, Floatons or Floating Islands are? If not, the answer is simple; they are clusters of Floating peat, muck and aquatic plants. Nutrient rubble and flora roots are also in the structure of these islands. Actually, the sizes of these drifting islands can be a few feet to 100's of acres. These naturally occurring islands can be found all over. Tussocks are frequently found in lakes and marshes. Tussocks are made often of cattails, bulrush, sedge and reeds that have extended from the shoreline of a wetland area. Overhanging flora will build up around the shoreline. This could happen as a result of low water levels; water flora tips may try to reach the water, which results in hanging and finally separation. Mostly the area right under the tussock is full of living aquatic organisms. Eventually, a harsh weather or storms tears off the section. The mountain begins to migrate and finally clings onto another landform. Wind helps to move the mountain along, but anything to harsh can destroy the mass. Some larger Tussocks are able to support trees that grow up to 50 feet tall with diameters between 8-12 inches.

Tussocks are a symbolisation of the aging procedure of bodies of water. Tussocks are said to be a part of the shallow lakes in Florida. Their number and enormity was altered by droughts, fire, and floods. Floods are the most familiar mode of transfer for Tussocks. Most Tussocks have been deposited in downstream marshes or upland areas.

In the today’s world, man made structures such as wires, levees, and dykes are made to preserve the water level. The man made structures discourage Tussock formation because water levels are often times too high or too low. Most people, these days, don’t cherish the influx of drifting islands. The island not only carry itself but many times animals too. It is not uncommon to see amphibians or reptilians along for a ride. Personally the arrival of an gator at my front door would not be a welcomed creature. The Tussocks don’t always bring unwelcome creatures, oftentimes they are carriers of good floras and herbs.

Tussocks are also responsible for another large problem. Tussocks can block paths to significant shipping harbour. This can cause a lot of worry for a businessman who works no where near the water. Boats can be blocked and damaged by it. It might also block the routes of irrigation systems. Many governments are wasting millions so that Tussocks don’t get in their way of having a happy life. herbicides have been used in a campaign to control the Tussocks. Some Tussocks have been controlled through pricey ways like shedding

and the use of a barge mounted track hoe.

-- Removing Chloramines From Your Drinking Water Is Simple And Extremely Important For Your Health

Removing chloramines from your water is simple if you have the right equipment. Most people however, do not think that these disinfectants pose enough of a danger to them to go through the trouble of purchasing and installing a home water purification system. These people are fooling themselves if they think that their health is not being jeopardized by ingesting this chemical through unfiltered tap water.

Chlorine has been the predominant agent in the family of chloramines for disinfecting our water. This chemical has been in use for over one hundred years, and has saved countless lives through the prevention of the spread of the majority of waterborne diseases. Chlorine and others chloramines are suspected of extracting a toll of their own however.

Scientists and medical professionals now say that removing chloramines from your drinking water is extremely important for your health. The disinfection of our water supply has coincided with a meteoric rise in the number of cancer cases, and cancer deaths, over the course of the last century. Evidence of the link between disinfection and cancer can be seen in every country that uses these chemicals in order to purify their water.

The maximum estimated safe level for these chemicals is 4PPM, but there are many times when the levels in your water exceed this limit. If the reservoir supplying your home were a public swimming pool, and the chlorine level exceeded 4PPM it would need to be temporarily closed down under law. No service interruption is required for your drinking water when the disinfectant level is high.

The 4PPM ceiling is just an estimate, because we really do not know at what level these chemicals become toxic. The U.S. EPA based these limits on the effect it is theorized that these chemicals would have on a 150 lb. man. If you are a small person, or if you have children in your home, then I feel that you should see more clearly why removing chloramines is important simply based on that fact.

These disinfectant agents are but one of the threats to your health that you face each and every time that you drink a glass of water. There are tens of thousands of chemical agents in our water, and any one of them is a danger to you. There are also parasites and cysts that survive disinfection, and the toxic heavy metal traces that are ever present.

For removing chloramines and other chemical contaminants you need a purification system that utilizes the dual action of an activated granular carbon filter, and a multi media block. Parasites and cysts can be eliminated easily with a sub micron filter, and an ion exchange will swap those hazardous metal traces for healthy electrolytes. This four-pronged attack gives you all of the protection that you need.

Removing chloramines and other contaminants is vital if you want to guarantee that you maintain good health. Take action to remove these impurities from your water today, and it will better your chances for a brighter, healthier tomorrow.

Gordon Hall is fervent about enabling you and everyone to live a healthy lifestyle, and is an ardent reviewer of Water Purification Systems. Visit his website now at : http://www.water-safe-and-pure.com to discover which Water Purification Systems Gordon recommends after far ranging comparisons.

-- Tussocks, Cattails And Floating Islands .

Do you know what Tussocks, Sudds, Floatons or Floating Islands are? For those who aren’t intimate with these things, simply put, they are Drifting masses of mud, peat, and aquatic plants. The islands are also comprised of plant roots and other organic rubble. In reality, the sizes of these roaming islands can be a few feet to 100's of acres. This natural phenomenon is seen all around the world. They are more normally found in lakes and marshes.

Tussocks in the main are made from cattails, bulrush, sedge, and reeds extending from a shoreline of some sort of wetland area. Overhanging vegetation will build up around the shoreline. Low water levels in the root areas can result in water plant tips reaching for the water and then slowly hanging over the edge and eventually breaking from the shoreline. Generally the area right under the tussock is full of living aquatic organisms. Finally harsh weather or storms cause the overhanging portion to break from the shoreline. Then it starts to migrate and attaches to another landform. This newly formed tussock then drifts and bonds to another landform. The wind helps it to migrate, but sometimes the harsh weather totally demolishes it and mix it with the water. Large trees up to 50 feet tall and 8-12 inches in diameter have been seen growing on Tussocks.

Tussocks are a sign of healthy maturing in bodies of water. Individuals say that Tussocks are a part of Florida’s shallow lakes. Droughts, fires and floods have greatly altered the number of existing Tussocks. Floods are the most familiar mode of transportation for Tussocks. Downstream marshes and upland are the most standard deposit areas for Tussocks.

Today, water levels are held by man made devices such as wires, levees and dams. This regulating prevents Tussocks from molding because of the flux in water levels. Presently, most individuals do not admire these drifting islands. The island not only carry itself but many times creatures too. Amphibians and reptiles do also come along. I personally don’t think someone would enjoy the arrival of a huge deadly alligator beside their home. Floating islands don’t just carry wild creatures; they can also bring helpful floras and herbs your way.

There is another big problem that is caused by these drifting islands. A floating island might stop an access to an significant place such as a busy port. This can cause a lot of worry for a business person who works no where near the water. It is not uncommon for ships to be stopped or damaged by Tussocks. Floating islands are also able to stop up the path of an irrigation system. Many governments are blowing millions so that Tussocks don’t get in their way of having a happy life. herbicides have been used in an attempt to control the Tussocks. Some Tussocks have been checked through pricey methods like shedding and the use of a barge mounted track hoe.
